HIRO AMA FREE SOUL

The London-based multi-instrumentalist Hiro Ama releases 'Free Soul' following on from his recent nostalgic single 'Autumn Colours'. The two releases are taken from Hiro's forthcoming EP Animal Emotions. "As a human being it’s really important to feel and express emotions whether happy or sad," says Hiro. "I sometimes struggle to and so these are a collection of songs that explore different emotions. I want people to feel something through my music so I called this EP Animal Emotions". Tying together house, jazz and funk, 'Free Soul' is full of spirit and movement. It bring to mind the kind of minimal jazz-house made by Detroit's Shigeto. The live drums mimic the beat of an 808 drum machine whilst a synth arpeggiator rises and falls like a breath. The bass is chunky and slides around like an old funk record, bringing a strong dance element. Sampled vocals emerge half way through, where the track gains a liquid quality. Like 'Autumn Colours', 'Free Soul' maintains a sense of nostalgia with the use of beautifully tear-jerking piano chords. Animal Emotions lands on 20th May, but for now enjoy the sounds of 'Free Soul'. -Ellie Rose-Davies
